Rudolf Cederström took two frigates and a landing party of no more than sixty men against Baltischport. After shelling the fortress, his force compelled a garrison about six times larger to capitulate, disabled forty-nine cannon, and extracted 4,000 roubles in ransom. Speed and surprise let the Swedes create an effect far beyond their numbers. Catherine the Great regarded the surrender as shameful, but the uprising against Gustav III that she expected did not follow.
