Catapults developed for shipborne aircraft also supported Britain's Queen Bee drone program. A cruiser or HMS Argus could stand away from the firing force, launch the target aircraft, and support an anti-aircraft exercise. Control could come from the launching ship or another aircraft. Cruiser aviation infrastructure therefore served fleet training and weapons development as well as reconnaissance.
