British anti-submarine doctrine depended on carrier aircraft

Carrier aircraft supported submarine hunting groups and the outer defenses of naval task groups.

Notes

British anti-submarine hunting groups relied on aircraft carriers to search for submarines. Carrier aircraft also formed an outer defense for task groups against submarine attack. Delaying carriers therefore reduced a capability central to the anti-submarine system the construction pause was supposed to strengthen.
