A carrier task group works like a naval division

A land-force analogy shows how ships and aircraft form overlapping ASW, air-defense, and strike groupings inside one self-sufficient naval formation.

Notes

A carrier battle group resembles a division more than a single brigade. Its ships must remain individually self-sufficient, yet their capabilities are deliberately integrated. Frigates and helicopters can form the anti-submarine element, destroyers, fighters, and airborne warning aircraft the air-defense element, and surface-launched missiles and carrier aircraft the strike element. The same platform may contribute to more than one function as the mission changes. Sending a carrier group therefore means sending an entire organized formation rather than one unusually large ship.
