Carrier interdiction and the shortage of task groups

Attacking launchers can reduce the defensive burden but requires a carrier and its escorts to be available.

Notes

Attacking a launcher before it fires reduces the burden on the fleet's air defences. A carrier group provides aircraft for that interdiction. Too few available carriers prevent this approach from covering every requirement. Carriers also need escorts and layered protection as part of a task group.
