Ending carrier operations did not end Australian or Canadian efforts to recreate the capability by other means. Both states sought parts of the former system without restoring a carrier. Britain then deliberately accepted a ten-year carrier gap before the Queen Elizabeth class entered service. Reassembling the support, organization, and equipment after that break drove up the cost of returning the capability to service.

After abandoning their carriers, Australia and Canada still sought parts of the lost capability, while Britain's ten-year carrier gap shows the cost of rebuilding it.
