How a carrier and battlecruiser hunted raiders

Carrier aircraft supplied wide-area search while a battlecruiser provided reliable heavy striking power against a located surface raider.

Question

How would battlecruisers and cruisers operate together in trade protection?

Short answer

Cruisers spread out, while a carrier-battlecruiser group searched widely and concentrated heavy force against a located raider.

Notes

Cruisers normally dispersed across trade routes, while a heavier formation remained on call over a much larger area. Carrier aircraft supplied wide-area search, contact reports, and the ability to shadow a raider. A battlecruiser then provided reliable heavy gunfire against a target that early carrier aircraft might locate without being able to sink quickly. With destroyers and any available cruisers added, the arrangement resembled the carrier-capital-ship combination later seen in Force H.
