Carrier Air Support at Both Ends of the Operation

Carriers supplied the nearest and most available air support across the amphibious operation.

Notes

Carrier aircraft were the quickest means of bringing Sea Hawks and other air support close to both ends of the campaign. As in the Korean War, carriers supplied responsive air power where nearby land bases were limited. The ships could reposition their flying fields with the amphibious force instead of asking every mission to begin from Cyprus or North Africa. Carrier aviation made Operation Musketeer more flexible than reliance on distant fixed bases alone.
