Chapter · 40:10-46:38

Using fleet tonnage to dominate Caribbean invasions

The British fleet masses far more tonnage than required to seize Cuba and prepare further operations against Spanish possessions.

Notes

Battleships, destroyers, cruisers, and submarines are committed to turn a Cuban invasion into an overwhelming operation. The required tonnage is compared with the force already present, and more ships are added until the success probability reaches the desired level. Dispersed naval power has to be concentrated locally before it can support an amphibious campaign. Cuba is also part of a wider plan to remove Spain from the Caribbean and gain the strategic benefits of regional control.
