Captured Italian guns became improvised Royal Navy air defense

Ships scavenged captured Italian anti-aircraft weapons and paired some of them with British naval radar during the Mediterranean fighting.

Notes

Captains sent executive officers, gunnery officers, and senior ratings to find extra anti-aircraft weapons. Some came from captured Italian equipment that the army had stored in North Africa without plans to use it. Italian anti-aircraft guns worked effectively with British naval radar. Ships later arrived at British and American yards carrying these weapons even though they appeared nowhere on their plans.
