Capital ships might revive carried torpedo boats after the Channel battle

The imagined short-range battle could encourage longer-range gunnery while also reviving capital ships that launch small torpedo boats to extend their reach.

Notes

A devastating close-range action might strengthen the desire to fight future battles from farther away rather than normalize knife-fight tactics. One less obvious design response would be for battleships and battlecruisers to carry small second- or third-class torpedo boats again. Stern launch-and-recovery arrangements would let a capital ship project torpedo attacks beyond its immediate position. The idea combines a pre-dreadnought practice with a new tactical need to extend striking range without exposing the battle line to another close action.
