Capital ships as peacetime status signals

A large carrier has status value simply because it exists. In peacetime presence missions, physical scale can influence perception in a way that resembles comparing headline specifications. This is a rare setting in which a Top Trumps style comparison has a real effect. Diplomatic signalling by an imposing capital ship remains separate from the harder question of how that ship would perform in war.
