A battle line with a fast battlecruiser wing

A slower battleship core protects cruisers and destroyers while faster battlecruisers maneuver as a separate striking force.

Notes

The formation is built around two battleships, with cruisers and destroyers under their protection. Those battleships carry many twelve-inch and six-inch guns, making the slow core dangerous to an opponent that tries to attack the screen. Battlecruisers operate independently as the faster force, able to reach an enemy whose slowest ship limits the formation to about nineteen knots. The contrast makes the operational tradeoff clear: a fast wing can choose where to apply pressure, while the battle line supplies a slower but heavier centre.
