Why Cape settlers would not support Lucas

A Dutch colonist's servant warns Lucas that local settlers will not join him because British rule has brought spending and new trading opportunities.

Notes

Lucas learned through a Dutch colonist's servant that the British were present and the local settlers would not support an attack. Shared Dutch identity was not enough to make the settler community reverse the occupation. British spending and access to profitable new trading opportunities had made the new rulers acceptable. Those immediate economic incentives helped stabilize the imperial transfer and left the expedition without local support.
