British rescue ships under air attack at Cape Palos

Royal Navy destroyers rescued Baleares survivors until an air attack caused a British death and halted the effort.

Notes

HMS Boreas and HMS Kempenfelt rescued survivors from Baleares. A Republican air attack caused a British fatality and forced the rescue to cease. Vice Admiral Manuel Vierna died with the ship, along with 765 sailors from a crew of 1,206. The sequence shows that danger continued after the torpedo attack and extended to foreign ships attempting humanitarian rescue.
