What makes Ecnomus one of history's largest naval battles?

Salamis, Yamen, Jutland, the Philippine Sea, and Leyte Gulf qualify under different measures of ships, people, displacement, losses, or duration.

Notes

Ecnomus has the strongest claim when the measure is the number of people committed to a single day of naval battle. Other famous battles lead under different measures: Salamis by possible ship count, Jutland by displacement, and Leyte Gulf by the scale and spread of its component actions. Yamen and Lake Poyang complicate the comparison because their totals include transports, shore troops, or fighting spread across much longer periods. Naval superlatives depend on definitions that need to be tested rather than repeated as labels.
