The surviving Roman fleet went ashore for repairs and then continued to Libya. This was Rome's first landing there in major force and carried the war onto vulnerable Carthaginian territory. The victory also gave Roman commanders more confidence in handling very large fleet actions, even though storms would still destroy later fleets. Ecnomus did not end a war that lasted another fifteen years, but it made the African expedition possible.
