Which Commonwealth warships might Canada have saved as museums?
Short answerProbably few beyond those already preserved; Haida and Sackville survived largely through local and naval-community commitment.
NotesCanada has struggled to preserve even its own historic ships, making the survival of additional Commonwealth vessels unlikely. HMCS Haida and HMCS Sackville are the principal successes, with only a few smaller survivors beyond them. Their endurance owed much to local advocates and naval communities rather than sustained federal enthusiasm. The Royal Canadian Naval Reserve helped materially, and the navy at Halifax continues to support Sackville. Parks Canada now cares for Haida, but community commitment carried both ships through periods when government preservation was not a priority.
