Canadian experience built inside the Royal Navy

Canadians serving in Royal Navy units accumulated technical and operational experience later used to expand Canadian naval strength.

Notes

Canadian personnel served across British ships and technical branches, including radar, gaining experience that could later form Canadian units. Their reputation for special aptitude partly reflects selection because Canada was sending particularly capable people into demanding roles. The policy did not work perfectly because many personnel became too integrated into Royal Navy ships to withdraw when Canadian formations needed them. Returning groups nevertheless spread their experience through the expanding Canadian fleet and became nuclei for new complements and units.
