Why navies choose the Canadian combat system

Why are some navies choosing a Canadian combat system instead of an American one?

The Canadian system is described as more open and adaptable, while the American alternative contains more proprietary technology.

The Canadian system's appeal is attributed to openness and adaptability. The American alternative is described as containing more proprietary and patented technology. Neither product is identified by name in the spoken reply. The comparison is consequently a general explanation of the purchasing preference, rather than a detailed assessment of named systems.
