Chapter · 13:33-15:18

Rerouting Canada's trade and energy infrastructure

Canada's dependence on American-linked pipelines would make Atlantic and Pacific maritime trade more important in an alliance rupture.

Notes

The Canadian problem extends beyond Arctic patrols because fuel pipelines and other infrastructure have long been organized around the United States. If that relationship became less dependable, Canada would need stronger internal links and deeper trade relationships with Europe or Asia. Its combination of advanced services, raw materials, and agriculture gives it valuable goods to exchange, but those markets must remain reachable by sea. The passage therefore connects national infrastructure policy directly to naval protection of trade routes.
