Why future human governments might choose Union or Commonwealth

A naming criticism in Call to Arms considers how familiar political terms could help a future human government win acceptance.

Notes

The frequent use of Confederation for future human governments prompts a criticism based on the political associations of names. Union, United, and Commonwealth seem more plausible choices for a large human polity. Combinations such as United Commonwealth of Humanity would draw on familiar names for large political groupings. The suggested advantage is public acceptance: a name should sound agreeable, or at least avoid immediately antagonizing its population.
