The human cost aboard the Spanish convoy

A destroyed galleon leaves only ninety survivors and kills a former governor of Chile and members of his family.

Notes

The treasure fleet carried passengers as well as bullion and cargo. Only about ninety people survived from one destroyed galleon. Among the dead were Francisco López de Zúñiga, former governor of Chile, his wife, and his daughter, while his two young sons survived and were taken prisoner. These casualties show the human cost hidden by ship and prize totals.
