Chapter · 8:47-9:32

Builth returns to the Tudor crown

The Wars of the Roses end the Mortimer rental, while Yorkist inheritance and Elizabeth of York's marriage carry Builth back into Tudor royal hands.

Notes

Richard of York's claim to the crown during the Wars of the Roses ended the final Mortimer rental. After the deaths and inheritances that followed, Elizabeth of York became the relevant heir. Her marriage to the Lancastrian claimant Henry VII returned Builth to royal hands. In November 1493 the site was re-established as a Marcher lordship for their son Arthur. Arthur died childless in 1502, ending that attempt to place the lordship in a royal household.
