Service identity as a military institution

A fictional admiral's worldview illustrates how service and regimental identity can divide insiders from the civilians they protect.

Notes

Some service members give those in the same navy, army, branch, or regiment a special insider status. In the British Army example, the regiment supplies that boundary. People outside it become those the institution protects. Coral's outlook in Icebreaker uses the same division between those who belong to the service and those who depend on it.
