Chapter · 1:36:14-1:39:58

Matching velocity to intercept a missile swarm

Five fictional destroyers must match a missile swarm's velocity before their limited counter-missiles, lasers, and shields can protect a planet.

Notes

Five destroyers face about 15,000 incoming missiles with 56 launchers and roughly 3,400 defensive missiles between them. Their advantage is acceleration: they can move into a more favourable range and relative velocity than the planet's fixed defences. Once they match the swarm's speed, lasers and shields can supplement the counter-missiles, although incoming weapons with fuel remaining could still manoeuvre against them. The ammunition carried also limits their options. Converting ordinary nuclear warheads into directional warheads would take days, while the interception is only hours away. These constraints belong to the fictional battle, where acceleration, weapon stocks, and preparation time determine the available defence.
