The GAU-8 Avenger is the 30 mm rotary cannon used by Goalkeeper. A larger variant is recalled as having been examined, with 45 mm given tentatively as its calibre. The barrel arrangement is also uncertain, alternating in the recollection between seven barrels and a possible six-barrel version for the larger gun. A Goalkeeper-like installation with that heavier weapon is imagined as an interesting option. The recalled proposal and hypothetical application do not establish that a 45 mm Goalkeeper entered service.

A tentative larger-calibre rotary-gun comparison
A tentatively recalled 45 mm proposal suggests one possible route beyond Goalkeeper's 30 mm rotary weapon.
