The proposed F127's quoted displacement is about 12,000 tons normal and 14,000 tons fully loaded. That would put a modern air-defence frigate in the size range of the Deutschland-class ships commonly called pocket battleships. A frigate label therefore gives little indication of a ship's size when comparing different periods. This comparison concerns displacement and terminology; it does not give F127 the combat role of an interwar armoured gunship.
