Refrigerated container ships offer power and data connections for modular systems, although their limited availability constrains this proposal. A separate idea uses a modified container ship with its own cranes to unload equipment onto trucks for a forward operating base. Containers would carry air-defence weapons, radar, anti-ship missiles and prepared defensive positions. The same delivery would provide accommodation, shops and a hospital. A few hundred containers could therefore supply both protection and the facilities needed to sustain a harbour or island position. The difficulty is paying to procure and retain a complete package before it is needed.
