Age of Sail artillery standardization and logistics

Common cannon types helped European fleets carry substantial artillery and support it far from home.

Notes

Standardisation helped European fleets carry more and larger cannon and use more common gun types. That commonality made their artillery easier to support logistically at long distances. It mattered when fleets operated in the Far East. The practice described belongs to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and part of the early nineteenth century, with a different meaning and extent from modern standardisation.
