A small radar cross-section does not remove every way of detecting a fast missile. In this assessment, Doppler-capable radar can provide long-range warning from movement. That warning could cue other defensive systems without supplying enough information for a targeting solution. Supercavitating torpedoes produce considerable noise, making them detectable by a different mechanism. Doppler radar detects movement electromagnetically and does not wait for sound.

Fast weapons, Doppler detection and early warning
High speed can provide a detectable characteristic, with early warning distinguished from a targeting solution.
