The extra burdens of an orbital air base

Putting aircraft support in orbit would add crew-screening and resupply problems while leaving travel time to the target.

Notes

A hypothetical orbital base would still need time to send its aircraft to an engagement. Personnel would require psychological preparation and tighter screening for work in microgravity. Jobs that need only ordinary military fitness on the ground would acquire additional demands in space. Resupplying a low-orbit station would also impose a large cost, adding to the basing problem.
