Why the CCV may outgrow a 6,000 ton Type 31 hull

Probably not. Command, logistics, and drone maintenance could push the vessel toward roughly 10,000 tons.

Question

Can the CCV perform its proposed role on a 6,000 ton Type 31-derived hull?

Short answer

Probably not. Command, logistics, and drone maintenance could push the vessel toward roughly 10,000 tons.

Notes

The Command and Control Vessel must do more than communicate with remote systems. It also needs to act as a sensor, command, logistics, and maintenance hub for them. Maintenance demands remain uncertain because the intended uncrewed systems have not yet been procured. Once those functions are included, a displacement near 10,000 tons is considered more credible than a 6,000 ton base. The transition allocation is put at about £5 billion and judged difficult to reconcile with the proposed change.
