One forecast places VR-style equipment aboard warships in ten or twenty years, giving selected officers views from drones, helicopters, and other remote sensors. Switching perspectives could let them inspect activity around one ship or across a fleet. A separate proposal adds exoskeletons for loading and unloading, with possible applications for marines. Ordinary surface ships are also expected to carry more remote daughter vehicles. Examples include equivalents of Sea Stallion or Fire Scout and an imagined unarmed vehicle resembling a Mark 48 torpedo that could investigate a contact. These are forecasts and illustrations, with no claim that all of the proposed systems are already operational.
