Missile quality versus magazine depth on the Vondetan class

Seventy Archer pods provide roughly 2,100 missiles in place of fifty more capable Ares weapons, while six Shiva tubes retain a nuclear option.

Notes

The move from Ares to Archer missiles first appears to be a downgrade, but the launcher loads change the comparison. One Ares occupies a tube, whereas an Archer pod carries about thirty missiles. Seventy pods therefore provide roughly 2,100 weapons in place of fifty Ares missiles. The refit gives up some specialized late-war warhead capability in exchange for overwhelming magazine depth, while six Shiva nuclear missile tubes remain for heavier targets. This fictional example shows why weapon quality, launcher count, and rounds per cell must be compared together.
