Deployment range and armament distinguish frigates, corvettes, and patrol vessels

Frigates generally deploy farther from home than corvettes, while offshore patrol vessels can combine global reach with much lighter armament.

Notes

A frigate is generally designed to deploy far from home, potentially to the other side of the world. Corvettes usually have a more limited deployment range. Both can carry substantially more weaponry than an offshore patrol vessel, even when the patrol vessel is designed for global deployments. Frigate and destroyer distinctions increasingly concern the emphasis of their capabilities rather than simple numerical thresholds.
