Juan de Borbon's limited Royal Navy career

What was notable about Juan de Borbon y Battenberg's naval career?

He completed training and spent time with the Royal Navy after entering exile, but the extent of his active service remains unclear and his dynastic position restricted his options.

Juan de Borbon completed naval training with the Royal Navy after leaving Spain for exile in 1931. Born in 1913, he also spent some time in British service, although the information available during the discussion does not establish an active wartime career comparable to Prince Philip's. His attempt to participate in the Spanish Civil War ended when General Mola had him turned back near the French border. His position as heir to the Spanish throne appears to have restricted what he could undertake. The ship named after him is discussed in relation to his dynastic importance rather than a distinguished record of naval operations.
