Closed production lines and the cost of replacing FV432

A disagreement about old vehicles leads to the interaction between factory restart costs and smaller orders.

Notes

Clarke directly rejects Dan's favorable description of the older vehicles, including their suitability during the Balkans deployments. He attributes the cost of the proposed Warrior derivative to the need to restart a stopped production line. Reduced orders after the Cold War would spread that restart cost across fewer vehicles. The resulting unit price therefore reflected earlier industrial and quantity decisions as well as the vehicle itself. He contrasts continued British ship and aircraft construction with the loss of armored-vehicle manufacturing capacity.
