Which alternate-history or fanfiction stories live rent-free in the panel's heads?
Short answerSeveral crossovers and rewrites stand out, especially BattleTech with Battlestar Galactica, a ship-girl arms-race story, and a Warhammer 40,000 and Supreme Commander premise.
NotesA BattleTech and Battlestar Galactica crossover is remembered for introducing elements of practical reality into its setting. Another recommendation rewrites Dante's Inferno in late-1990s American gangster slang. A Kantai Collection-style story has defense companies discover ship girls, setting off an arms race and nuclear war, with RAM sticks becoming currency in the aftermath. A Warhammer and Supreme Commander crossover places an AI-controlled machine carrying a human personality into Dawn of War: Soulstorm. Its recommendation is qualified by dissatisfaction with where the writing stopped. Several titles are not reliably recalled, so the descriptions identify premises and personal reactions without pretending to be a complete reading list.
