Expertise in economics does not automatically extend to defence technology. A forecast can describe a supposedly new military development even though specialists have been following it for decades. Comparing the two perspectives in a debate could expose those gaps and bring each side's evidence into the same discussion. The limitation works both ways: familiarity with economics as it applies to warfare does not amount to being an economist.

Economics and defence technology need different expertise
Economic and military analysis draw on different expertise, so confident forecasts still need scrutiny from specialists in the systems involved.
