Should Sea Wolf escorts protect carriers or Force Z?

Would the Sea Wolf-equipped Leanders be best used to guard aircraft carriers?

The alternative proposed here puts Sea Wolf with formations lacking a carrier, particularly Force Z, while gun-armed escorts accompany the carriers.

Using the Sea Wolf ships beside carriers is proposed, while the competing view gives priority to formations without carrier air cover. Escorts with conventional antiaircraft guns could accompany the carriers instead. A Sea Wolf-equipped Leander with Force Z is imagined using its thirty missiles against aircraft unprepared for guided shipboard defence. The expected effectiveness is part of the time-travel scenario, with the ship's guns following the missile engagements.
