An October Taranto attack would miss Caio Duilio

An earlier raid changes the target list, while damage to the modern battleships could still force survivors into more distant bases.

Question

Could the larger Taranto attack happen in October rather than November, and what would change?

Short answer

Caio Duilio would escape because her rebuild was still being completed elsewhere, but losses among the modern battleships would still have major operational consequences.

Notes

Moving the attack from November to October changes which ships are available as targets. Caio Duilio would still be at the yard completing her rebuild and would escape an attack on Taranto. Losses among the Littorio-class ships would nevertheless remove the Italian battleships causing the greatest concern. Surviving ships could withdraw to more distant harbours, increasing the sailing distance to their operating areas while fuel remained constrained.
