A proposed 'long pom' would retain belt feeding while using a longer barrel and altered ammunition to approach Bofors muzzle velocity. The aim is sustained fire at greater range. An eight-gun clip-fed Bofors mounting raises a separate practical problem: finding room for all the loaders around the weapons. Better ballistic performance would also leave the problem of tracer interpretation. Tracer rounds can follow a different flight path from other projectiles, so treating the visible trace as a precise picture of the whole stream can mislead the gunner.

A longer-barrelled pom-pom combines reach with sustained fire
The proposed gun combines Bofors-like velocity with belt feeding, while loader space and tracer behaviour remain practical constraints.
