The wooden Kaiser still mattered at Lissa

A brief example from the Battle of Lissa shows that a recently launched wooden ship of the line could remain useful during the transition to armored fleets.

Notes

The arrival of ironclads did not make every wooden capital ship instantly irrelevant. The Austrian 92-gun Kaiser, launched in 1858, still performed useful service at the Battle of Lissa in 1866. Its place in a mixed fleet shows how transitional navies combined older hull forms with new armored vessels. Naval technology changed through overlap as well as replacement.
