Amphibious shipping as the connector for heavy forces

Heavy army equipment becomes harder to justify when carriers and amphibious ships are removed from the system needed to get it near a war zone.

Notes

In a recent conversation with an unnamed senior Army figure, Dr. Clarke challenged the demand for heavy land equipment after that person had dismissed carriers and amphibious ships. He argued that those maritime platforms were needed to get the equipment near a war zone. Removing the means of deployment would also weaken the case for retaining the equipment itself. In that argument, protecting a service's combat capability requires supporting the transport provided by other services.
