Broadside arcs and the limits of the game model

The duel highlights the historical desire to fight on a ship's engaged side, while the simulation allows fire from both sides more freely than a crewed vessel could.

Notes

Historically, a sailing warship tried to fight on one engaged side, while the game handles its guns more freely. A real crew had to work the battery, manage the ship, and sustain combat on the side brought to bear. The duel still preserves the basic geometry of broadside combat, including the need to turn the loaded side toward the target. It abstracts much of the labor and coordination that made changing sides consequential aboard a sailing warship. The contrast separates a useful positional lesson from the game mechanics that simplify its execution.
