Chapter · 3:00-5:58

British interests and global commitments

The proposed force begins with Britain's existing overseas commitments, trade links, and the places where it may need to deploy people and equipment.

Notes

An integrated review should begin with the interests Britain has already chosen to protect. Platform choices follow from those commitments. Deployments support a trading economy that depends on routes well beyond Britain's shoreline. Canada's training areas help sustain readiness, while forces in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania face more exposed European commitments. Each commitment may call for a different response, and the force must remain credible wherever policy has created obligations.
