British amphibious lift extended beyond dedicated warships

The British brigade-lift discussion combines large amphibious ships with landing ships, reserve lift, and merchant vessels taken up for service.

Notes

The large amphibious ships formed only part of the transport system needed to move a brigade. Landing ships logistic carried vehicles and supplies, while reserve ferries and merchant vessels taken up from trade added further lift. The account recalls a period when two major amphibious ships could be available as the center of that force, including landing platform docks and HMS Ocean. Counting only the most prominent hulls therefore understates the shipping arrangement described here.
