British aid moved to the Soviet Union, China, and Allied forces

A parliamentary accounting lists tanks, aircraft, ammunition, rubber, shipping, bases, hospitals, and local supplies contributed by Britain without close item-by-item settlement.

Notes

Britain supplied the Soviet Union with tanks, aircraft, ammunition, rubber, and other matériel from its own resources, while ships and lives were risked delivering it through northern waters. It also equipped and housed American forces and spent about £150 million on airfields, barracks, hospitals, and other facilities. In one seven-month period, local supplies replaced about 1.2 million tons of transatlantic shipping. British support also made roughly 700,000 deadweight tons of shipping available for American military operations. These services, inventions, and operational knowledge cannot be captured by a simple item-by-item balance sheet.
