Would Britain use America and Japan to contain Russia?

Britain would welcome American and Japanese help, but the peace settlement and facts on the ground limit how much outside powers can reverse Russian gains.

Question

Would Britain use the United States and Japan to limit Russian expansion?

Short answer

Yes, but only within the limits created by Russia's wartime gains and the settlements already reached before Versailles.

Notes

Britain would try to use the United States and Japan as counterweights to Russian expansion. Diplomatic balancing cannot simply erase territory already secured during the separate end of fighting between Russia and Germany. The Treaty of Versailles would negotiate around many of those facts rather than create them from nothing. British leverage would therefore depend on alliances, access, and future guarantees more than on redrawing every Russian gain. Coalition diplomacy remains constrained by the military settlements that precede it.
